Marshalltown Dog Park

Department: Parks and Recreation
Date: 08/11/09

A Marshalltown Dog Park Committee has been working with Parks and Recreation to construct a dog park to be located in Riverview Park on the east side.  So far the committee has raised $6,000 of the $30,000 needed to build the park.  The Dog Park will be a place where owners can bring their pets to run and play with other dogs in a safe fenced-in area.  Plans are to open the park sometime in 2010 with a 3.5 acre play area for big dogs and .7 acres for small dogs. Donations will be accepted in any amount and can be sent to Parks & Recreation.  Personalized bricks are being sold for $100.00.  All donations are tax deductible.  Brochures are available at the Parks and Recreation Office.  On August 15th a fund-raiser will be held at Marshalltown's Bricks Tavern; on August 29th a Dog Daze of Summer event will be held at the proposed site in Riverview Park; on September 19th Hy-Vee Drug Store's Wine Club will host a fund-raiser at the Midnight Ballroom with wine-tasting, food and a silent auction.
