City Request for Proposal for Network Cabling
Request For Proposal The City of Marshalltown is soliciting bids for installation of fiber optic cable between City Hall, and the Carnegie Library. The two buildings are situated on adjacent lots on North Center Street in Marshalltown. Prior to the installation, contractors engaged in the remodelling of the Carnegie building will install 4” fiber duct and certain raceways to provide a path for the fiber cable. The respondents to this Request for Proposal will be responsible for supplying and pulling the fiber from City Hall to the various locations within the Carnegie building, utilizing the ducts and raceways installed during the buidling remodelling. The winning bidder will also be required to place connector ends on all fiber and test the fiber connections to verify they are functioning properly. We currently use SC connectors on our fiber cables and would prefer to continue this practice. The cable will originate in the computer room, on the second floor of City hall, drop to the basement of City Hall, then pass through ducts to the basement of Carnegie building. At that point the fiber will attach to a fiber distribution switch. From the distribution switch, fiber will be sent to six departmental switches, each equipped to receive fiber from the distribution switch. The fiber installation will be used for data, video, and at a later date - VOIP. To accommodate future needs we are requesting a quote for multi-mode, 50 or 62.5 micron cable, 24 strand with an option for 48 strand. The connection between City Hall and the Carnegie building will be through fiber duct that will be constructed as part of a hallway suspended between the two buildings. Fiber running to the departmental switches will run either through conduits or will be laid in a suspended ceiling. Therefore the cable must be plenum-rated. Architectural drawings of the building plans may be purchased at our Public Works Department, in the Municipal Building, 24 N. Center Street, Marshalltown, IA..
