The Marshalltown Police Department will start issuing Ice Cream Citations to school age children on June 21^st. These citations will be issued to children who are found to be riding their bicycles in a safe manner. Officers will especially be issuing these citations to children who are wearing their helmet. 

The citations are being funded by the Iowa Valley Bicycle Club and both area Dairy Queens. The citation is good for one free Jr. Blizzard and can be redeemed at the South Center St or North 3^rd Ave.  Dairy Queens in Marshalltown.

This spring the Iowa Valley Bicycle Club provided 135 helmets for young students who attended one of the six bicycle rodeos at area elementary schools.  In the last 6 years the Iowa Valley Bicycle Club has provided 766 helmets for area students.  The goal ofthe Ice Cream Citation is to encourage people to ride their bicycles safely and to wear their helmet, as well as, to continue to make Marshalltown a bicycle and pedestrian friendly community which was one of the seven big ideas of the Imagine 2011 committee.
