At 00:57 hours on 21 January 2012, the Marshalltown Fire Department responded to the report of an apartment fire at 519 North First Street Apartment #4. Upon arrival, occupants reported light smoke in the upstairs hallway and in apartment 4. Upon investigation, a burnt container with food in it was found inside a microwave oven. There was no fire at that time. The light smoke was ventilated by opening windows. Damage was confined to the microwave oven, estimated at $50.00. There were no injuries to the public or fire service personnel.
